Jesse Kirkpatrick and Greg Koblentz award grant to study biodefense and gene editing



Jesse Kirkpatrick, Assistant Director of the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy, and Dr. Gregory Koblentz, Director of the Biodefense Graduate Program in the Schar School of Policy and Government, have received a grant from the Smith Richardson Foundation to assess the risks, benefits, and governance options of new genome editing tools. Drs. Kirkpatrick and Koblentz, in partnership with leading researchers from Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation, will conduct the 20 month study, CRISPR and Biosecurity: Assessing Risks, Benefits, and Governance Options of New Genome Editing Tools.
